COVERED JARLET, with lotus leaf shaped cover and decorated with a chrysanthemum scroll. Base and lip rim unglazed. Height 6.5 cms. Yuan Dynasty early 14th century.
Yuan Period (1279-1368)
In the early 13th century, the Mongols, under Jenghis Khan, captured northern China and started a prolonged campaign to conquer the rest of the country. By 1279, Kublai Khan, the grandson of Jenghis Khan, finally defeated the Southern Sung and established the Yuan Dynasty with its capital at Ta-tu which is modern day Peking.
